Edubike

Platform/Hardware: Oculus Rift, Leap Motion, Arduino

Edubike is an educational VR cycling safety simulation prototype. Riding a bike on a trainer users will try to pass hazard scenarios in traffic with vehicles and pedestrians and see safety instructions. For an immersive experience, users can interact with hand gestures through Leap Motion Controller attached on Oculus Rift, the bike in the simulation gets the speed and the direction from the wheel sensors connected to an Arduino board.

The experience starts with the introduction section where the user matches the virtual bike position to the real one and gets instructions on the controls. In the next two sections the player passes cycling challenges following the instructions given on the way. In the final scenario the player will be in a lorry driver’s seat and get instructed to check the mirrors before a left turn not to hit a cyclist.
